1 1/2 cup lukewarm water
Pinch of sugar
1 package yeast
3 1/3 cup flour I usually use 2 cup flour and 1 1/3 whole wheat
1 tsp salt
1 egg yolk Sesame seeds (optional) Parchment paper on the baking sheet No Worries. If you do not have parchment paper just grease and lightly flour your baking sheet.
Combine it. Combine 1/4 cup luke warm water, pinch of sugar and yeast.
Let sit for 8 minutes.
Yeast water will be foamy / bubbly. Then add 1 1/4 cup lukewarm water.
SECOND:
Mix it. Mix together flour and salt in a large bowl.
Add yeast water and stir to coarse dough.
THIRD:
Knead it. Knead dough for 6-7 minutes on a lightly floured surface.
If dough is too sticky add more flour.
Knead until dough is smooth and elastic.
FORTH:
Let it rise. Shape dough into a ball.
Put dough in lightly oiled bowl and turn the dough to coat.
Cover bowl with plastic wrap.
Let dough rise for 1 1/2 hour or double in size in warm, draft free area.
FIFTH:
Make the rings. Punch dough down, put on floured surface.
Cut the dough into 10 pieces.
1. Take one piece and roll it 18-20 inches long.
2. Fold it in half and twisted it to a rope.
3. Make a ring out of the rope. Press both ends tight together.
4. Put ring on prepared baking sheet.
Repeat this with other pieces.
SIXTH:
Preheat oven. Preheat oven to 425°F.
Brush the rings Brush them with beaten egg yolk.
Sprinkle on sesame seeds (optional.) Let your rings sit for 20 minutes in warm, draft-free area.
BAKE THEM!
Bake: Bake for 15-20 minutes or bake until golden brown.
Let them cool on rack.
EAT THEM.
Enjoy with cheese, hummus, olives, ... for dinner.
Make your evening a feast. Also, this bread freezes well.
